”Return On Wednesday Dressed In Uniform ”, Senate Tells Hammed Ali

The Senate has asked the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), to come back on Wednesday in uniform. The lawmakers said as the chief executive of the security outfit, Ali should lead by example. The Customs boss had appeared before the Senate on Thursday, after he failed to show up on Wednesday as initially scheduled. He also came in mufti despite the insistence of the lawmakers that he should appear before it in uniform. His failure to show up had angered the lawmakers, and they compelled him to appear today (Thursday). When asked by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu why he failed to appear before the lawmakers in uniform as requested, Ali said the Senate did not state in its last letter to him that he should appear in uniform. Ekweremadu, however, said the last letter only served as a reminder of the first letter to him, in which he was asked to come in uniform.

A popular Islamic lecturer, author and speaker, Sheikh Hussaini Yusuf Mabera, has threatened to take renowned Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua to court. According to a fiery Facebook post on 13th March 2017, the pastor’s crime lies in the fact that he regularly describes Jesus Christ as God. “I am filing a case to the Federal High Court of Nigeria against Pastor T.B. Joshua and co- pastors for speaking a lie against Jesus Christ by calling him God,” Sheikh Mabera began in a Facebook post which soon went viral. Admitting that he regularly watched Joshua’s popular television channel Emmanuel TV, the Nigerian Islamist continued. “I was completely aghast when I heard the ‘so-called’ Prophet T.B. Joshua of Emmanuel TV calling Jesus God in the presence of thousands of his audience, among whom were professors, doctors, reverend fathers and mothers, pastors and bishops.” He added that, from his own research, the Bible itself is replete with evidence contradicting the deification of Jesus Christ. Isaac Adewole , has set up a panel of experts to investigate the controversies surrounding the level of benzoic and ascorbic acid in the soft drinks being produced by the Nigerian Bottling Company . Adewole , in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday , assured Nigerians that the Federal Government had convened a group of experts, including food scientists and nutritionists, to access the safety of preservatives being added to the beverages .According to him, he will also meet with officials of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria. WAEC plans to release results 60 days after exam

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, says it plans to reduce the waiting days for the release of its West African Senior School Certificates Examination (WASSCE) results to 60 days. The Head of National Office of WAEC in Nigeria, Olu Adenipekun, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the waiting days will now be 60 days as against 90 days previously. Mr. Adenipekun spoke with NAN on the side-line of the council’s 65th anniversary celebration which began on Thursday in Lagos. UTME 2017: JAMB clarifies position, says awaiting results candidates can apply

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has clarified its position on candidates awaiting results being able to write admission examinations into tertiary institutions. The examination body had initially barred candidates without their Ordinary Level results from sitting for the Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The board’s initial stand was based on the fact that many institutions have admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission. Such schools had to delete and start the process all over again, thereby denying other qualified candidates the opportunities for admissions, JAMB said initially. However, JAMB on Thursday said candidates awaiting results are eligible to register and sit for the UTME exams. ‘Nigeria Will Soon Recover From Economic Recession’ – World Bank

The World Bank Group has disclosed that the economic recession currently being experienced in Nigeria will soon be a thing of the past. Mrs Eme Essien-Lore, Country Manager, International Finance Corporation, a member of the group, made the observation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday. ”In our perspective and with the numbers that we have seen coming from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nigeria’s economy has recorded about one per cent real growth. ”That is a bit lower than government’s expectation which is about 2.2 per cent growth for 2017. “It is a bit modest, but we certainly expect that the economy of Nigeria will rebound and recover from last year’s recession, ” she said. Essien-Lore commended Federal Government`s new economic plan, but said that there was need to set priorities for implementation of the plan by the year 2020. Boko Haram terrorists have killed a Nigerian army Lieutenant in an attack in Magumeri town in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday evening, Sahara Reporters reports. The source said the militants ambushed Lieutenant Akinwale Christopher Oguntoye and his colleagues on their way to Gubio from a shooting range competition in Monguno. The officers were pinned down by terrorists in Magumeri where they razed down houses, including a police station in the town. Lt. a bThe Naira on Thursday consolidated its gains against the dollar at the parallel market. The Nigerian currency gained two points to exchange at N455 to a dollar, from N457 it posted on Wednesday, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N550 and N480, respectively. At the Bureau De Change window, the Naira traded at N400 to a dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N550 and N487, respectively. Trading at the interbank segment of the market saw the Naira closing at N306.75 to a dollar. Currency traders said that the boost in liquidity by the CBN had enabled the Naira to sustain its gain against the dollar at the FOREX market. The CBN had sustained its intervention at the market to clear the backlog of genuine FOREX buyers. (NAN)

The Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), has written to the Senate of his decision not to appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday, March 15 as it coincided with the routine management of the NCS. The Customs boss asked the upper chamber of the National Assembly fix another date for his appearance. Ali’s letter was read to lawmakers at the plenary on Tuesday.The letter was signed by an Assistant Comptroller General. The lawmakers condemned Ali for relegating the Senate and for failing to personally sign the letter. President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki, after listening to the aggrieved lawmakers, said Ali must appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday and in uniform as requested by the legislature.

Amosun Signs Bill To Formally Upgrade MAPOLY To University

The Ogun State-owned Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has been upgraded to the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology. Governor Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, March 13 signed the bill to that effect. Also signed into law is the bill to establish the Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, in the Yewa area of the state. Amosun signed the bills during the State Executive Council meeting at the governor’s office in Abeokuta. He said the MKO University, which would operate a multi-campus system, was expected to boost science and technology in the state.
