The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has given reasons why it chose to open its first embassy in Spain. IPOB said it was due to the country’s rich knowledge and history of fighting for freedom. Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) says it has disconnected electricity supply to the National Arts Theatre, Lagos over unpaid N12 million debts. Mr Godwin Idemudia, General Manger, Corporate Communications of EKEDC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that the debt was an accumulation of unpaid bills over time. Idemudia said EKEDC had no option than to disconnect the complex after all appeals to the management to pay the accumulated bill proved abortive. The EKEDC spokesman, however, promised that supply would be restored if the management paid part of the debt. A senior official of the National Theatre, who did not want his name mentioned, told NAN that the management would pay the bill as soon it received its allocation. He said the management could not pay from of its generated revenue because “the money into the Treasury Single Account as directed by the Federal Government.” He, however, assured that the management would pay part of the bill soon. Mr. Idris disclosed this in Sokoto on Friday when he addressed officers of Zone 10 of the force in Sokoto, comprising Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara state commands. The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced the reintroduction of bank charges on certain categories of cash deposits and withdrawals. This came about three years after the apex bank stopped the charges. In a circular to all Deposit Money Banks posted on its website , the regulator said the decision to reintroduce the charges on cash deposits was part of the review of charges on deposits and withdrawals under the cashless policy . It said the decision was taken at the Bankers’ Committee meeting, which held in Abuja two weeks ago. The circular , signed by the Director , Banking and Payments System Department , CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, stated that the committee decided that the cashless policy should be extended to the remaining 30 states of the federation. It also directed that with effect from April 1 , 2017, banks in the states where the cashless policy was already operating , Lagos , Ogun , Anambra , Abia, Kano, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory , would begin to impose

The Lagos State Task Force says its men have rescued a four- month-old baby boy put in a bag and dumped under the bridge in Oshodi area of the state. The Chairman of the outfit, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, told newsmen in Ikeja that the enforcement team of the Task Force rescued the baby while on duty in the area. Egbeyemi said that the 18-year-old mother of the baby was arrested by an official of the force when she was running away after dumping the baby. A member of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Segun Olulade, has called on the Federal government to direct the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission NBC to stop airing the reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria. In a statement released today, Olulade who is the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Health Services, said the show is not in anyway promoting the African values. According to him, the content of the show is aline to the values and culture of Nigeria. His statement in part reads; “We have culture and tradition in this country that we must not allow to die. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has recovered seventeen exotic vehicles in a warehouse of the former Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Inde located at Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Kaduna. The recovery was sequel to an intelligence the commission received that stolen money and properties suspected to proceeds of crime were being stored in the warehouse. Upon receipt of the intelligence, a team of operatives from the Kano Zonal Office were deployed to carry out the investigation. The EFCC, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 arraigned one Bala Tangalu before Justice A. B. Mohammed of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja, on a 2-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N2.5m. Tangalu was arrested following a petition by one Dozie Ugonna, who alleged that he was scammed of over N2.5m by the accused and his cohorts. According to the petitioner, the money was meant for the purchase of materials to neutralize some harmful charms purportedly contained in a carton filled with U.S dollars. The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge. Justice Mohammed granted him bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi has revealed that following the losses suffered by Boko Haram in the north-east, its fleeing members had found a haven in his state. Bello made the disclosure in Abuja while speaking at the seventh edition of the National Security Seminar entitled: “Consolidating on the Gains of Counter Terrorism Operations in Nigeria.” He, however, warned that the insurgents had chosen a wrong place because he was ready to collaborate with the military to rout them out of the state. “Kogi is now a haven for Boko Haram, because many of them have relocated to my state.“Just last night, four high profile Boko Haram members were arrested in Kogi by the military. “I want to assure them that they have chosen a wrong place to relocate, because we will never allow them. “We will work together with the armed forces to consolidate on the victory and gains recorded in the North-East,’’ he said

A 25-year-old man, Awalu Usman, who allegedly stole a wallet containing N 1, 500, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada. Usman of Angwan Dodo in Gwagwalada is facing a two-count of criminal trespass and theft. The prosecutor, Mr Abdullahi Tanko said the accused criminally trespassed into the room of one Okoro Okoro and stole his wallet containing N1, 500. He said that during police investigation the wallet was found in his possession. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Judge, Alhaji Alhassan Kusherki, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in like sum. He adjourned the case till April 19 for hearing.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan has said she is not exempted from the challenges Nigerians face with poor electricity as she sometimes stays in her office for a month without power. Alhassan said this on Tuesday when she appeared before house of representatives committee on women affairs and social development for the defence of her ministry’s budget. She blamed consistent blackout for the delay in submitting the documents required for her ministry’s budget defence.

A Ghanaian pastor from Domeabra in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Vincent Kete, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl. 3News reports that Pastor Kete pleaded guilty to defiling the daughter of his friend of 25 years. At a recent court hearing, prosecutor Kofi Atimbiri said the accused called the victim to his room on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. The accused and the victim’s father, were friends who lived in a single room in a mission house of their church. The pastor told an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Magistrate Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku that his action was the work of the devil and does not know what came over him. After listening to his plea, the court sentenced Pastor Vincent Kete to 20 years in prison with hard labour.

The body of one Sherifat Bello, was exhumed from a shallow grave, dug by her husband who killed her for ritual purpose on Monday, in an uncompleted building in Ijora, Lagos. It was gathered that, this was not the first time an attempt to take Sherifat’s life have been made by her husband. The couple separated after Bello (Sherifat’s husband), inserted a charm in her private part. Sherifat was killed, after she reached out to her husband for upkeep allowance for their three children. Their initial agreement was to meet at some place in Ebute Metta, Lagos, but they moved to another location in Ijora, where Bello pounced on her and killed her. He then dug a shallow grave and buried her after dismembering her and removing some of her body parts. Bello then travelled to Ibadan, his hometown, to avoid being suspected of committing the crime, but Sherifat’s family wouldn’t be deceived by this after they discovered she was missing. The deceased’s family notified the police who arrested Bello.

A Facebook User, Nkem Beluchi is claiming primary school students from at the Early Dew Montessori Primary School, GRA Enugu were arrested by the Police Force for allegedly not doing their assignments. An 18 - month - old boy has died after consuming a bottle of kerosene , which his mother served him as water in Ikpoba- Okha Local Government Area of Edo State . The incident reportedly occurred on Iguma Street , off Medical road in Benin, the state capital . The deceased , identified as Israel Buhari, was said to have received the substance from his mother , a kerosene vendor, when he complained of thirst at about 10 am last Tuesday . It was learnt that the little boy gulped the petroleum product , but spat out the rest of the content when it became unpalatable for him. The mother , Mrs . Ata , was said to have realised that she had served her only son the wrong drink when he screamed in pain from the impact of the ingested substance. It has been revealed that N35m out of the N8.5bn diverted by retired Maj. Gen Emmanuel Atewe was paid to the Living Faith Church popularly known as Winners’Chapel. Atewe served as the Commander of the military Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield, in the Niger Delta before his retirement. He was last week re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for an alleged fraud of N8.5bn, which the EFCC claimed was perpetrated during the operation. He is facing 22 counts before Justice A.O. Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos. The other defendants in the case are a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi; Kime Engozu and Josephine Otuaga. The EFCC accused them of conspiring among themselves to divert N8.5bn from Operation Pulo Shield between September 5, 2014, and May 20, 2015, using six companies.
