KWASU expel 87, as 6,620 students convoke



Not fewer than eighty seven (87) students were expelled over varying degrees of offenses by the management of the Kwara State University, Malete.

This much was disclosed by the Institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), during a press briefing heralding the commencement of activities of the combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremony of the Institution.

Akanbi while giving statistics of convoking students, said 87 Students were expelled, while 6,620 graduands in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 Academic calendar.

He said “Kwara State University has zero tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct, all cases of indiscipline were investigated and appropriate punitive measures are taken against students found guilty of such offence.

“This is to ensure that the few bad eggs among the students do not contaminate the decent ones. Between 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions, a total of eighty-seven (87) students were expelled from the University.

“The students were involved in examination malpractice, drug related offences, internet fraud, robbery, among other antisocial behaviors. The expulsion followed investigation and the establishment of their guilt by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

Meanwhile, KWASU will be awarding honorary Doctorate degrees on 7 distinguished personalities in various fields “The Nigerians we are conferring with our honorary degrees are the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, Alh. Muhammadu Indimi, Dr. Johnson Bamidele Adewumi, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Alh. Kamoru Yusuf and Dr. Babatunde Jolayemi Omotowa” he added.
