Inspector killed as gunmen attack police station, cart-away weapons in Ekiti

A police inspector was killed while the police armory was raided after about 40 armed men raided Ido-Ekiti Divisional Police Station in Ido/ Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti state yesterday October 14th. The gunmen stormed the police station at about 7pm and started shooting sporadically. The attackers used dynamite to blow open some of the stations safe. Police sources say the armed men came for the armory as that was their first point of call during the attack. The police has also ruled out possibility of the armed men coming to release a high profiled detainee as no one was in the police cell as at the time of the attack. Source - Daily Trust

The Federal Government, through its National Biosafety Management Agency, has issued a seven- day ultimatum to retail store giants, Shoprite and Next Cash ‘N’ Carry to withdraw any product that contains Genetically Modified Organisms from their shelves or risk a total shutdown. The warning was handed out to representatives of the two superstores at a briefing in Abuja on Friday. The Director-General, NBMA, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, said the agency had received complaints from members of the public about the sale of GMO foods in the two stores. He stated, “Recently, we carried out a survey of likely GMO products and we have been able to have some collections, some materials that we call GMO suspects. Adeniyi Ademola, a judge of the federal high court Abuja, says he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) because he granted Sambo Dasuki bail and freed Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) leader. Last weekend, some judges’ homes were raided by the DSS on allegations of corruption. Commotion As 15- Year-Old Girl Resurrects During Her Burial Ceremony At Warri Cemetery

There was commotion in Warri, Delta state yesterday after a 15-year-old girl who was presumed to have died suddenly woke as she was about to be buried at the Warri Cemetery. The girl, whose name could not be ascertained at press time, reportedly died at about 5a.m. yesterday and was wrapped in a mat and placed on top of the soak away at Warri Motor Park. It was learnt that the girl suspected to be pregnant, allegedly took concoction and went into deep sleep which ostensibly made people suspect she might have given up the ghost. It was learnt that sympathisers made up mostly of youths saw her completely naked and presumed that she had died, wrapped her in mat and headed for the cemetery. “When we got to the cemetery, the workers there dug the grave for her burial. War On Corruption Continues As DSS Arrests Two More High Court Judges

The Department of State Security (DSS) has continued the clampdown on corrupt Judges as it has arrested two more judges over allegations of corruption. According to The Nation, Justices Bashir Sukola and Ladan Manir of the Kaduna State High Court, were arrested in Kaduna and taken to the DSS Headquarters in Abuja at about 8.30pm yesterday October 12th. A source in the DSS says that accounts of some of the judges currently under investigation have been frozen. “Some accounts have been frozen through orders of the court. This affects some of the judges. Not all of them. We found some huge lodgements that are questionable in some accounts and in addition to that we also observed the inflow of their salaries over a long period without them making any withdrawal at all. “What that means is that they don’t live on their salaries at all. The Senate on Thursday approved the extension of the validity of the results of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) being conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to three years. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the extension was contained in the new amendments made to the Act establishing the board. The Bill approving the amendment of the Act was passed at plenary on Thursday., and the senate said that the extension was granted to reduce the financial burden of the examination on parents.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), has ordered the immediate lifting of the ban on rice importation from import restriction list and the re-introduction of import duty payment at land borders. Public Relations Officer of customs, Wale Adeniyi announced this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja today. “Over the years importation has been restricted to the seaports because border authorities have found it difficult to effectively monitor and control importation of rice. When the decision to ban it rice was taken, it was not an effective measure because smuggling of the product thrives with people using different means of conveyance including small trucks, bicycles and even animals putting them on donkeys and some actually carry it on their heads. According to lecturers in the school, Kiri was abducted in Birnin-Gwari area of Kaduna State. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the invasion of residences of five judges, including those of two Justices of the Supreme Court – Justice Walter Onnoghen and Justice Sylvester Ngwuta – by armed men of the Department of State Service and reported arrest as a direct assault on the judiciary. A man is suing Samsung after his phone, Galaxy Note 7 exploded and scorched his groin while he was sleeping. According to the man Michael Taylor who spoke to TMZ, his new Galaxy Note 7 blew up and caught fire on his bed in the dead of night. Taylor says the hotline burned his crotch, legs and sheets. In the docs, obtained by TMZ, he says he had no idea the phone had a defective battery susceptible to overheating and exploding. About a month after he bought it, he was charging the phone overnight and says he woke up to find it “shooting flames” … which caused 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Samsung had issued a recall earlier in September — before the alleged fire — but Michael says the phone should never have been sold to him in the first place.
